I was going through 2 Peter 1 recently with a group of guys and it spurred some great conversation and I wanted to share the content. I want to focus on 2 Peter 1:3-4 for this post. I’m sure we have all heard someone say that “God has given us everything that pertains to life and Godliness. But what does that really mean and how does it impact my daily life? Well, I decided to dig deeper into this scripture to gain some better understanding.

His divine might, strength, force and ability has bestowed gratuitously and given us all, the whole of things that are advantageous for both physical and spiritual life and devotion and piety towards God.

It is great to know that we have a loving father that cares so much that He has not only given us the strength, might and ability to get wealth as we see in Deuteronomy 8:18, but He has given us the same power that He posses so that we may gain the whole of all that we need for a successful physical and spiritual life. God is not going to do it for us. But He will give us the strength and ability to obtain it. Now it is up to us to put in the effort to achieve the goal.

Just like anything else we set out to accomplish, we have to train to succeed. Part of this process is realizing that God has placed us here for His glory and good pleasure. We are part of God’s great and glorious plan for this world. As we pray and read God’s word, we partake in all that God is, we should start to see the corrupt and evil desires and ways of this word fade away. We no longer want to fulfill the desires of the flesh, but sincerely desire to do all that God has predestined us to do.

I want to encourage you to begin to focus in on God. Remember His goodness and mercy. Dwell on what the Bible says about who God has made you to be. As you pray, begin to listen for the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. Praying is a conversation not a monologue. God will speak, but we have to get quiet enough to hear. As you do this, watch the cares of this world begin to fade. Because after all, everything in this world is temporary but what we accomplish for God is eternal.
